Over 50 scientists came together in Stuttgart on May 23th and 24th for the first workshop of the DFG-funded Priority Programme (SPP) 2311 on the “Robust Coupling of Continuum-biomechanical In Silico Models to Establish Active Biological System Models for Later Use in Clinical Applications – Co-design of Modelling, Numerics and Usability". In extended talks, each of the 11 involved research projects presented their work and their ideas to the group. Rich and fruitful discussions arised after the talks and in coffee and lunch breaks. The format in presence guaranteed that everyone got to know the projects and ensured a lively exchange between PIs, PostDocs and PhD students. The group is highly interdisciplinary and includes engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians as well as physicians and clinical researchers. This creates great opportunities for new ideas and modelling approaches towards the overall goal of computer simulations for clinical applications.
The Priority Programme (SPP2311) consists of 11 research projects, each of which being a collaborative effort of interdisciplinary, Germany-wide research groups from medicine, mathematics, computer science and engineering. It will also support research activities in the Stuttgart Cluster of Excellence “Data-Integrated Simulation Science (SimTech)”. The programme is coordinated by Prof. Oliver Röhrle, PhD, Principal Investigator in SimTech and Director of the Institute for Modelling and Simulation of Biomechanical Systems.
